Senior IPS officer Archana Ramasundaram becomes the top brass of CBI

Senior IPS officer Archana Ramasundaram would be the first one to be appointed additional director in the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday. She is the first woman to be elevated to this level in the investigation agency. Ramasundaram, at present the director general in the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board, is a 1980 batch officer from the state cadre. She was also the first woman joint director of the agency and deputy inspector general and later its first woman joint director. She is known for her investigation of the Telgi stamp scam case besides other economic offence cases between 1999 and 2006.
 
She served in Economic Offences Wing (EOW), administration and later in the CID. During her tenure in Tamil Nadu CID, she along with her team had complied a book of important cases investigated by the department from 1906 to 2010.
 
Her name was recommended by CBI director Ranjit Sinha to the department of personnel, which oversees the functioning of the agency. The Appointments Committee of cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cleared her name.
