On Wednesday, 5th February, the minimum temperature dropped to 20 Deg. Celsius in the city and 18.4 in Meenambakkam.
It was hazy in the city and was covered with shallow
fog & mist in the suburbs. Mist is heavier than fog and the visibility
levels differ.
The fog might have resulted from the smoke
pollutants from garbage burning at the Perungudi dumping yard. This might have coupled
with the high humidity levels, might have contributed to the fog in the
southern suburbs.
The cold is more severe in sparsely populated areas.
February started with a rather warm weather and has become colder with the
days. This trend is likely to continue till mid-February.
Y.E.A. Raj, deputy director general of meteorology,
Chennai, said the clear sky had led to warm days and cold nights in the city. After mid-February, the days and nights will
become warmer.
