Sangam 4-Tamil Fest

Posted on: 23/Jan/2014 12:12:59 PM
10 day event of the second edition of Sangam 4 will be held from January 24th. R Gandhi, senior advocate and chairman of organizing committee, and Fr Jegath Gaspar, founder of NAAM are organizing this program.

Sangam 4 deals not only with topics of literary interest but also with issues of contemporary relevance. Consciously, it attempts to move away from jingoistic Tamil chest-beating to collective research for solutions to our common challenges – most importantly assimilation of novel realities of the shrinking globe.

The event also includes the commemoration of the millennium of Rajendra Chola’s coronation. He was the only known Indian – a Tamil ruler – to have conquered lands beyond the Indian subcontinent. He had conquered as many as 52 countries including Kadaram, Malaysia, and Singapore.

More than 60 scholars, experts and activists will talk and make presentations on varied subjects. The inaugural day will be marked as Thirukural Thiruvizha, insisting that the Thirukural be declared a national book

The other significant features include the announcement of the next mega music project – Project Andal by filmmaker Rajiv Menon. The centenary of the great Tamil Scholar and initiator of World Tamil Conferences Rev Xavier S Thani Nayagam will also be commemorated on Jan 26. During the event, debates on pertinent issues will take place from 4 pm to 6 pm followed by speech by scholars and experts everyday. The event will be held at CSI Synod Centre on Whites Road.
