Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sanctions Rs 52 Crores for afforestation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday sanctioned an amount of Rs 52.11 crore towards Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project II in an endeavor to maintain afforestation initiatives in the state.
During her previous regime in 2005-06, chief minister J Jayalalithaa had launched an afforestation project at an estimated cost of 567.42 crore with funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It was aimed at improving the quality of life of those dependent on forests, besides restoring forests with their help.
