Hectic day for police ahead

About 12,000 police will be deployed on the streets from 10 A M to 11 P M on Thursday to manage the crowds. They will keep an eye out for trouble at spots such as Express Avenue and Phoenix Mall and traditional attractions like Snake Park and Vandalur zoo. Barricades will be put up on Old Mahabalipuram Road, East Coast Road and EVR Periyar Salai to regulate traffic. “Thursday’s crowds will be mainly families. Our job will be crowd management, unlike New Year’s Eve when we have to deal with drunk and unruly people,” said a police official. Depending on the crowd, traffic diversions may be introduced on Kamarajar Salai where 15 lakh people are likely to descend on Marina Beach.
