Posted on: 13/Jan/2014 5:56:48 PM

With the series of Pongal festivals starting tomorrow, the price of flowers at the Koyambedu market prices has risen sharply.

Jasmine, which was selling at Rs. Rs. 800/- per kilo was sold at Rs. 1,500/-. Crossandra (Kanakambaram), which was sold at Rs. 600/- per kilo, was sold at Rs. 1000/- per kilo.

The flowers are delivered to Koyanbedu from Cuddapah, Salem, Tengpur, ariyanur, Dindigul, and Sendurai.

Because of the sharp rise in price, the traders buy fewer quantities. Explaining the reason for the sudden price increase, a trader informed: generally, about 7 trucks of flowers are delivered to Koyambedu. Today, only 2 truckloads of flowers arrived. Moreover, the flowers withered due to the excessive snowfall reducing the quantity.
