Puli kolam contest at Mylapore Festival

The traditional puli kolam contest will be held today at 3.30 p.m at Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival. Around 100 women and men will fight it out on a four-ft-by-four-ft space for 15 prizes in the 45-minute contest on the east end of North Mada Street. What’s more there’s a kolam contest for the kids too; the 10 best kolams will win prizes.
At 5 p.m. is the Dayakattam Contest and Cycle Rickshaw tour. A troupe for Coastal Karnataka will present the story of Sita Apaharanam for an hour in the traditional North Canara ‘Yakshagana’ folk style in front of Kapali Temple at 6.30 p.m. At 8.30 p.m. is the vintage film music concert — a tribute to TMS, PBS and Vaalee by C.A. Raja’s Pranavam Orchestra.
The festival ends on January 12 with a heritage walk, pallankuzhi contest, morning mikeless kutcheri and Classical music. For detail, visit www.mylaporefestival.com.
