1472 Multi-storeyed apartments by slum clearance Board at the cost of Rs. 117 Crores

Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board has built 1.31 lakhs apartments, and houses. The Chief Minister has ordered immediate renovation and repair works for these buildings.

Rs. 10 Crores have been allotted for this expenditure for the year 2013. Rs. 15.77 Crores have been allotted for the year 2014. 29,026 apartments & houses will be repaired at 177 locations.

In the Okkiyam-Thuraippakkam-Kannagi Nagar project, 15,565 tenements have been built to shift the people living currently in unsafe areas. Additional 8,048 tenements will be built. Facilities for bus transportation are also being arranged. Accordingly, the current depot at Kannagi Nagar is renovated to have 20 buses with the full-fledged administration office.

The slum dwellers at the Corporation Ward 96 – Kakkanji Nagar will be shifted to Ambattur and Athipattu (Stage – 1) where 1,056 multi-storeyed tenements are constructed at the cost of Rs. 84.96 Crores. Athippattu (Stage – 2) will have another 416 multi-storeyed tenements built at the cost of Rs. 32.23 Crores.

The 271 sq ft tenements will have 2 rooms, kitchen, and bathroom/toilet. The Chief Minister has ordered the immediate release of Rs. 31.50 Crores for Athippattu (Stage – 1) and Rs. 11.63 Crores for Athippattu (Stage – 2).
