Employment Hiring of employees yet to pick up in Chennai

While hiring activities have been picked up in other states of the India, the scenario in Chennai is rather negative, especially with the economic downturn in the automobile industry.
Labeled as the Detroit of India, there is a slow-down on the hiring in the automobile industry and its ancillary units in Chennai. Delhi & Hyderabad have recorded a spurt of 25% & 20% respectively in December, 2013. During the same period, Chennai has a recorded a 4% decline in hiring. The main reason is the lack of demand in the automobile industry & the ancillary units.
In the corresponding period, there is a slow improvement of hiring in the IT & ITES segments (33%). This compares well with the figures of the banking industry (decline 17%) and the automobile industry (decline 4%), and Engineering & R&D (decline 14%).HR experts are hopeful of improving.
