Good news for private nursing graduates

Posted on: 09/Jan/2014 12:02:41 PM
Earlier the private nursing students were prohibited from applying for jobs in government hospitals. Now there is a cheerful news for them because the Honorable Madras high court has said they too could compete for government jobs along with nurses from government-run institutions.

A writ was filed with regard this by Tamil Nadu Recognized Private Nursing Schools and Colleges Association and others on Wednesday.

The first bench comprising Chief Justice R K Agrawal and Justice M Sathyanarayanan said: "As rightly pointed out by additional advocate-general (P H Arvindh Pandian) the doctors who come out of deemed medical universities and private medical colleges affiliated to government, universities are permitted to compete along with doctors from government-run institutions in competitive examinations conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and the Union Public Service Commission. Once doctors from government-run medical colleges and private run medical colleges are allowed to compete for selection to public employment, it cannot be stated that nurses who studied in government-run institutes alone are eligible to compete for public employment. It belies logic and common sense."

Making it clear that students from both streams have to undergo a selection process and that only the best would be appointed, the judges said if the existing system is permitted then no student who has successfully undergone courses in deemed universities and private institutions would eligible for jobs in government and quasi government entities.
