Rains expected in Tamil Nadu

There was some relief for Chennaites because of a light drizzle. . A few more showers are expected during the weekend.
A trough that has formed in the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to bring some rainfall to the state, according to the Met office. “It is expected to intensify. We are watching how it develops,” an official said.
Although southern parts of the state are likely to receive more rainfall, Chennai will have intermittent rain.
The northeast monsoon season officially ended on Tuesday, with the city posting a rainfall deficiency of 41%. Tamil Nadu normally receives more than 60% of its annual rainfall between October and December, but this time it recorded a deficit of 33%.
Nungambakkam recorded an annual total of 102cm rain, while Meenambakkam received 125cm this year. The city’s average annual rainfall is140cm.Asthecity braces for a harsh summer, a light spell of rain is enough to raise hopes of residents. It drizzled in Guindy, Velachery, Nungambakkam and Teynampet on Wednesday.
The relative humidity in the city was 74%, and the Met office recorded a maximum temperature of 29.1°C and a minimum of 23.5°C.
The Met office said night temperatures will remain low till mid-January. The minimum has remained around 20°C for the past few days.
