Railway fares to go up further?
Additional funds are required by Indian Railways to provide better security and more amenities for the passengers. Railways are planning to increase the ticket fares including additional charges for security.
According to a senior
railway official, Indian Railways are facing severe financial crisis due to
several reasons such as are facing in diesel prices. The Railways find it difficult
to manage the current services on a day-to-day basis. Accidents have also
increased. Also, accidents have increased in the unmanned level-crossings.
Plans are under way to totally eliminate unmanned level-crossings in the next 5
years. Over-bridges are required to be built. Funds are needed for this purpose
as well.
After detailed
debating, Railways have come up with a plan to pass this burden to the
passengers by increasing the ticket fare including security charges. An official decision is yet to be announced.
