Smart cards for travel in MTC buses

The Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation will introduce smart cards for travel in their buses. Trials will be conducted on Adyar & OMR routes. 6000 ETM (Electronic Ticketing Machines) has been ordered.
ETMs can be used to swipe smart cards. It will also dispense tickets. Smart cards can be topped at the bus depots. The relief is that no change will be required.
The
completion of functioning smart cards will enable passengers to travel in buses,
trains, and metros. Monthly passes are being introduced and will be given first
preference. The conductors (10,000) will be used for surprise checks &
other duties.
