Boarding schools (education, food & stay) at 2 places for orphaned boys – Chennai Corporation
For the first time, Chennai
Corporation has decided to construct 2 hostels in the city for orphaned
children providing boarding and bedding apart from educating.
Under the ‘education for all’
movement, boarding schools have been taken up to improve the living standard of
the orphaned and road-side dwelling children to provide education, food, and
staying facilities. Presently, 3 schools are being run jointly by ‘the
education for all’ movement and the Corporation of Chennai. However, these are
meant for girls only. Girls, aged between 6 and 14 are being provided food,
shelter and education. 81 girls are studying in these 3 schools.
However, there are no similar
arrangements for the boys. Chennai Corporation has decided to construct 2
boarding schools in the city exclusively for the boys. 150 boys are expected to
benefit from this. The officials informed that activities have already commenced
to decide the location for the 2 boarding schools.
