Mettur project to lessen power cuts

Posted on: 26/Nov/2013 12:09:12 PM
On Monday, the 600MW Mettur thermal plant and 210MW unit 3 of the Tuticorin thermal plant resumed generation, which is likely to bring down the duration of power cuts in the districts. The Mettur thermal plant, which was shut down for maintenance on November 1, is expected to commence generation by midnight on Monday.

A TNEB official mentioned, “Initially, it may not function to its full capacity of 600MW. But, in a few days, it is expected to reach maximum production. The 210MW unit at Tuticorin restarted after an overhaul.”

The Tuticorin unit, which was shut down on November 9, needed an overhaul and this was completed in record time to tide over the crisis.

Meanwhile, unit 1 of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant has stabilized its generation to around 350MW and the project managers have sought the permission of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board to scale up its generation to 500MW.
