Velachery - St Thomas Mount MRTS Extension to Transform Travel in South Chennai
The long-awaited Velachery–St Thomas Mount MRTS extension in Chennai is expected to significantly improve public transportation for residents of South Chennai suburbs. The project, which connects Velachery with St Thomas Mount, will enhance connectivity and provide seamless integration between different railway networks in the city.
This MRTS extension spans around 4.5 km and includes new stations at Adambakkam and Puzhuthivakkam before reaching St Thomas Mount. Once operational, the line will allow MRTS trains to run directly from Chennai Beach to St Thomas Mount, improving travel convenience for thousands of daily commuters.
One of the biggest advantages of the project is the creation of a major multi-modal transport hub at St Thomas Mount. Passengers will be able to easily switch between MRTS, Chennai Metro Rail, and the suburban railway network, making city travel faster and more efficient.
