Final Voter List in Tamil Nadu to Be Released on Feb 23
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Tamil Nadu’s electoral rolls, which began on November 4, led to the removal of 97.38 lakh names in the draft list published on December 19. As a result, the total number of voters dropped to 5.43 crore.
Those whose names were deleted, along with citizens who had newly turned 18, were given time to apply for inclusion. Following a direction from the Supreme Court, the Election Commission extended the deadline by an additional 10 days, which concluded on February 10.
Due to this extension, the release of the final list was postponed. The Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik has now announced that the final voter list will be published on February 23 after verification and uploading of the updated applications.
