The Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for in-service teachers will be conducted on July 4 and July 5, 2026, as announced by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB). This special TET exam is mandatory for teachers working in government and government-aided schools across Tamil Nadu.

Application Dates
- Online Application: February 18 to April 10, 2026
- Application Correction Window: April 11 to April 13, 2026

TET Qualification Mandatory as per Supreme Court Order
The Supreme Court of India ruled on September 1 last year that passing the TET exam is compulsory for teachers working in government and aided schools. Teachers who have not yet cleared the exam must pass it within the next two years to continue service and be eligible for promotions.
Following this directive, Tamil Nadu School Education Department announced that special TET exams will be conducted three times a year – in January, July, and December.
Minimum Qualifying Marks for Tamil Nadu TET 2026
As per the Government Order issued on January 28, 2026:
- BC, BCM, MBC, DNC & Differently Abled: 50% (75 marks)
- SC, SC-A, ST: 40% (60 marks)
- General Category: 60% (90 marks)
The revised qualifying marks are also applicable to the TET exam conducted in November last year.
