MK Stalin Opens Rs 96-Crore Korukkupet - Manali Rail Overbridge, Eases North Chennai Traffic

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday inaugurated a new rail overbridge on Korukkupet–Manali Road, built at a cost of ₹96 crore to ease long-standing traffic congestion in North Chennai.

The 840-metre-long bridge, including a 72-metre railway span, has an 8.4-metre-wide carriageway and 5-metre-wide service roads on both sides to ensure smoother local traffic flow. The project addresses delays faced for nearly 40 years at the Korukkupet and Kodungaiyur railway crossings, where around 42,000 vehicles were held up daily. The overbridge is expected to benefit nearly one lakh residents in areas such as Korukkupet, Kodungaiyur, Tondiarpet, Ezhil Nagar, Kannadasan Nagar and Nehru Nagar.

During the event, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new ₹75-crore rail overbridge at the 2A crossing on Ennore High Road. The proposed structure will be 448 metres long and 11 metres wide, with dedicated service roads and pedestrian footpaths.

Additionally, a new public park will be developed near Manali Road at a cost of ₹1.1 crore, featuring walking tracks, seating and lighting to improve local amenities and quality of life.
