Tamil Nadu to Operate 1,360 Special Buses for Maha Shivaratri 2026

To manage the heavy travel demand during Maha Shivaratri 2026, the Government of Tamil Nadu has announced the operation of 1,360 special buses across the state. The services will be operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to ensure smooth, safe, and comfortable travel for devotees and weekend passengers.

With thousands expected to travel to major pilgrimage centers and hometowns, the special buses will operate from Chennai and other key cities between February 12 and 14.

Special Bus Service Breakdown

From Kilambakkam Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (Chennai)

February 12 – 125 special buses

February 13 – 500 special buses

February 14 – 505 special buses

Major destinations include Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Tiruchi, and Kumbakonam.

From Koyambedu Bus Terminus

- 55 special buses on February 13

- 55 special buses on February 14

Routes include Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur, and Bengaluru.

From Madhavaram Mofussil Bus Terminus

- 20 additional special buses on February 13 and 14.

From Other Major Cities

100 special buses will operate from Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Erode, and Tiruppur to various destinations across Tamil Nadu.
