Kanum Pongal 2026: 108 Ambulances Deployed, Medical Camps Set Up Across Tamil Nadu

Posted on: 17/Jan/2026 8:37:37 AM

To ensure public safety during Kanum Pongal celebrations, the Health Department has made extensive medical arrangements at major public gathering locations across Tamil Nadu.

As part of the preparedness plan, 108 ambulance services have been deployed near tourist spots, beaches, parks, zoological gardens, and entertainment zones where large crowds are expected.

Special Health and Emergency Services for Kanum Pongal

With thousands of people expected to travel and gather during the festival, district administrations have strengthened emergency healthcare facilities. In Chennai, special medical arrangements have been made at Marina Beach, Elliot’s Beach, zoological parks, Mahabalipuram, and amusement parks.

Police security measures are being implemented simultaneously to ensure smooth crowd management and public safety.

Medical Camps at High-Footfall Locations

Special medical camps will function at crowded locations in coordination with local bodies. These camps will provide:

- Blood pressure and blood sugar tests

- Treatment for fever, cold, and diarrhoea

- Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and essential medicines

- First-aid and emergency support

The initiative aims to provide immediate medical assistance and reduce health risks during the festival.

108 Ambulance Services on High Alert

Over 1,000 108 ambulances are currently operating across Tamil Nadu through EMRI Green Health Services.
In Chennai and Tiruvallur districts alone, more than 200 ambulances are on active duty.

All ambulances will remain on standby on Kanum Pongal day, supported by a fully operational emergency control centre to ensure rapid response to medical emergencies.

Health Department Advisory

The Health Department has advised the public to celebrate responsibly, stay hydrated, avoid overcrowding, and seek immediate medical help when required.
