Pongal Festival Traffic Update: Heavy Vehicle Restrictions on GST Road in Chengalpattu
Due to the Pongal festival travel rush, traffic congestion is expected on the GST Road and nearby major roads in Chengalpattu district, as a large number of people travel to their native places.
To ensure public safety, avoid traffic congestion, and maintain smooth traffic flow, the Chengalpattu District Police has imposed temporary restrictions on heavy commercial vehicles.
Restricted Vehicles
- Quarry lorries
- Ready-mix concrete (RMC) trucks
- Other heavy goods vehicles
Restriction Schedule
January 13 & 14, 2026: 2:00 PM to 2:00 AM (next day)
January 18, 2026 (2:00 PM) to January 19, 2026 (12:00 PM)
Alternate Route
During the restriction hours, heavy vehicles must use the Walajabad – Oragadam – Sriperumbudur route.
Additional Measures
- Quarry operations will be temporarily suspended
- Movement of crusher lorries will be strictly controlled
The traffic changes are implemented to reduce congestion and prevent accidents during the festive season. The police have requested public cooperation for smooth traffic movement.
