Moderate Rain Likely in Coastal Districts of Tamil Nadu Today
The coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places today, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre.
Weather System Behind the Rain
In its official bulletin, the weather department stated that:
- An upper air cyclonic circulation is prevailing over north Kerala and adjoining areas
- Another lower-level atmospheric circulation is active over the southeast Bay of Bengal
Due to these weather systems, coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may experience thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall at isolated locations.
Fog and Temperature Drop Expected
- Light fog is likely to occur during night and early morning hours in some areas
- Minimum temperatures across parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may fall by up to 3°C below normal
Chennai Weather Today
In Chennai and its suburban areas, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. There is a possibility of light rain at a few places, especially during the day.
The weather department has advised residents in coastal regions to stay alert during thunderstorms and plan travel accordingly.
