Call 104 for medical advice

Posted on: 09/Nov/2013 2:05:58 PM
Very soon Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project will be launching 104 medical services. One can dial 104 and can get advice, information, counselling and grievance redress. Callers can get information on the nearest hospital, nearest MRI or CT scans center as well as advice on precautionary steps to be taken during the rainy season. Issues like absence of doctors in government hospitals and shortage of drugs and poor quality of essential services will also be addressed.   Even as you call for an ambulance in an emergency, you can simultaneously dial ‘104’ to find out the first aid that can be administered to the victim. The calls and handing out of advice will be handled by GVK-EMRI, which runs the ‘108’ ambulance service.

A registration officer will answer the call, take down the caller’s name and address and transfer the call to the official concerned. Now, two registration officers, four paramedics, one doctor, one counselor and two systems improvement officers (SIO) handle the system. The caller will be given a complaint number which can be tracked. Complaints through ‘104’ can go up to the health secretary.
