Posted on: 05/Dec/2025 9:16:57 AM

The Regional Meteorological Centre has announced that Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi are likely to receive heavy rainfall today as the weather system over the Bay of Bengal continues to influence the region.

Chennai Sees Intense Overnight Rain

In the last 24 hours, several parts of Chennai experienced heavy showers.

Manali Pudhunagar recorded 24 cm, making it the highest. Other notable readings include:

Ennore – 21 cm

Vyasarpadi (Vimco Nagar) – 20 cm

Kathivakkam – 16 cm

Gummidipoondi – 15 cm

Manali – 12 cm

Ponneri – 10 cm

Cyclone Ditwah Weakens Completely

Cyclone Ditwah, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, has fully weakened into a low-pressure area after moving close to Chennai and towards Puducherry. Even though the system has lost strength, the associated cloud bands are still expected to bring intermittent moderate rain to Chennai and surrounding areas.

Forecast for Today

Heavy rain: Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi

Thunderstorms with moderate rain: Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (at isolated places)

Chennai: Partly cloudy skies with light to moderate showers in some areas

Conclusion

Rainfall is expected to continue across Tamil Nadu as the weakened system persists. Southern districts remain on alert for heavy rain, while Chennai may witness occasional showers throughout the day.
