The KTCC region (Kancheepuram–Tiruvallur–Chennai–Chengalpattu) witnessed its wettest day of the monsoon, with North Chennai receiving exceptional rainfall since 8:30 AM. Several neighbourhoods are close to recording a century (100 mm), marking one of the season’s strongest rain spells.
Heavy rain over the Puzhal and Cholavaram lake catchments has significantly boosted inflow, improving water storage levels. The intense showers are expected to continue through the day, particularly in North Chennai and Tiruvallur districts, as rain bands from the weakened system offshore persist over the coast.
Residents are advised to stay alert as more heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in pockets, especially in low-lying and lake-catchment areas.
