The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Puducherry, warning of extremely heavy rainfall as Cyclone Ditwah moves closer to the Tamil Nadu coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts very heavy to extremely heavy rain over parts of north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday.
Cyclone Ditwah, which struck Sri Lanka’s eastern coast on Friday leaving over 80 people dead, is currently moving northwest toward India. It is expected to make landfall on November 30, affecting Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the affected families in Sri Lanka and wished speedy recovery for those impacted.

Kerala: Light to moderate rain across many areas; isolated heavy showers likely on Saturday.
Telangana: Light to moderate rain at a few places on Sunday; isolated heavy rainfall expected.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh – Yanam & Rayalaseema:
Saturday: Light to moderate rain at most places; heavy to very heavy rain at isolated areas.
Sunday: Heavy to very heavy rain at a few locations; extremely heavy rainfall at isolated spots.
Alert Levels in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu has declared a red alert for four districts and orange alert for five districts as precautionary measures ahead of Ditwah’s landfall. The IMD states that the system remains a cyclonic storm with no immediate signs of further intensification.
