As Cyclone Ditwah continues to intensify rainfall across Tamil Nadu, several districts have declared a holiday for schools and colleges on November 29 (Saturday). Continuous heavy rain, red alerts, and flood risks in coastal and delta districts prompted the precautionary closure.
Districts Declaring Holiday
The following districts have officially announced a holiday for all educational institutions:
Schools & Colleges Holiday
- Cuddalore
- Nagapattinam
- Puducherry
- Karaikal
- Tiruvarur
- Kallakurichi
Schools Only
Viluppuram
Further updates may be issued based on tomorrow’s weather conditions.
Heavy Rain & Red Alert Warning
Cyclone Ditwah has resulted in widespread rainfall, especially in the Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam belt. The IMD has issued a red alert for coastal regions, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
NDRF teams, fire services and local rescue units have been deployed to low-lying and flood-prone areas to monitor water levels and assist residents if needed.
Government Clarifies on Fake Statewide Holiday
Earlier rumours about a statewide school holiday went viral on social media.
The Tamil Nadu government clarified that:
“Holidays will be declared only by individual District Collectors, based on local weather severity.”
Thus, the holiday applies only to selected rain-affected districts, not the entire state.
