Chennai Launches Digital MTC Monthly Passes: Buy ₹1,000 & ₹2,000 Tickets on Chennai One App
Tamil Nadu Minister for Transport and Electricity S.S. Sivasankar on Thursday launched the digital version of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) monthly travel passes, making commute access faster and more convenient for Chennai residents.
With this upgrade, passengers can now purchase the Golden Ticket (₹1,000) and Diamond Ticket (₹2,000) directly through the Chennai One mobile app. The initiative, jointly introduced by MTC and the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA), allows commuters to obtain unlimited-travel passes anytime, anywhere, without visiting ticket counters.
The Minister stated that the digital pass comes with a 30-day validity from the date of activation and can be purchased through 100% cashless payment options, including UPI, debit cards, and credit cards. The move is aimed at enhancing commuter convenience, reducing queues, and promoting digital public transport services in Chennai.
