Work on the foot overbridge (FOB) at Singaperumal Koil on the Chennai–Dindigul National Highway (NH-45) is moving at a fast pace. The stretch carries thousands of vehicles daily and has been widened into an eight-lane corridor from Perungalathur to Chettipunniyam.
For years, pedestrians near Singaperumal Koil, Maraimalai Nagar, Kattankulathur, and Potheri faced serious safety risks while crossing the busy highway, especially near bus stops where several accidents and fatalities had been reported. Local residents had repeatedly requested a safe pedestrian crossing.
Acting on the demand, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) began constructing a foot overbridge near the Anumanthapuram junction about nine months ago. The installation of steel pillars is now complete, and large cranes were used recently to fix the steel walkway across the highway.
According to highway officials, the structure is in its final stages. The foot overbridge will be opened to the public soon, providing safer access for pedestrians on this high-traffic route.
