Deep Depression Senyar Forms Over Bay of Bengal; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alerts for Tamil Nadu
The deep depression over the South Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression within the next six hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, another low-pressure area has formed over the Kanyakumari Sea and adjoining Sri Lanka–Southwest Bay region.
The developing system, currently near Malaysia and the Malacca Strait, has been named ‘Senyar’ as recommended by the UAE. IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for widespread heavy rain across Tamil Nadu for the next seven days.
Heavy rain is likely today in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram, and tomorrow in Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam. An Orange Alert has been issued for November 29 for Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur, with very heavy rainfall expected.
