Due to continuous heavy rains triggered by a developing cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, holidays have been declared for schools and colleges in 17 districts across Tamil Nadu today (Nov. 24). In the remaining districts, schools alone have been declared closed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the deep depression over the Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclone by November 26. Since last night, heavy rainfall has been recorded across various parts of Tamil Nadu, particularly affecting daily life in southern districts including Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Ramanathapuram.

Heavy rain is expected at one or two places in the following districts today:
Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai.
Puducherry & Karaikal
Schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal have also been declared closed due to heavy rain.
