The Chennai Metro Phase 2 project is progressing rapidly, especially on the 47-km Madhavaram–Sholinganallur corridor, which will include 46 stations. Since most of the stretch is elevated, construction is moving ahead without delay. Elevated viaduct and track-laying works are ongoing in Madhavaram, Retteri, Kolathur, and Anna Nagar.
Between Koyambedu Market and Virugambakkam, flyover linking works are in full swing, with over 100 pillars already completed. According to CMRL officials, land acquisition issues in the Koyambedu–Alwarthirunagar section caused initial delays, but work has accelerated significantly over the past year.
About 60% of construction on the Koyambedu–Nandambakkam stretch is now completed. Viaduct construction from Virugambakkam to Nandambakkam is done, and track-laying and signal installation are progressing fast. Metro services between Koyambedu and Nandambakkam are expected to begin by June next year.
