Cyclone Likely to Form Over Andaman Sea on Nov 26; Heavy Rain for Tamil Nadu
The deep depression over the South Andaman Sea is expected to intensify into a cyclone by November 26, according to the Chennai Meteorological Centre. The system, currently moving west–northwest, may strengthen further in the next 48 hours.
In the last 24 hours, southern Tamil Nadu received heavy rainfall, with Tirunelveli’s Nalumukku recording 26 cm, followed by Oothu (25 cm) and Kakkachi (23 cm). Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts also reported significant downpours.
Weather officials predict moderate rain across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till November 29, with chances of thunderstorms in a few areas. Coastal districts may experience strong surface winds.
Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into the South Andaman Sea, North Andaman Sea and South Bay of Bengal due to rough sea conditions. Those already at sea must return to the coast immediately.
