Physiotherapist Dr. Dhanajeyan Jayavel (Spectrum Physio) warns that excessive mobile and laptop use is causing a surge in neck, shoulder, and arm pain among people of all ages. Poor posture - especially bending the neck forward while using smartphones - leads to Upper Cross Syndrome, muscle imbalance, and long-term spine issues.
He advises users to hold phones at eye level, avoid using them while lying down, limit screen time to 15–20 minutes, and follow simple exercises like chin tucks and shoulder activation to prevent pain. Seniors are encouraged to use larger screens instead of smartphones.
For persistent pain, he recommends consulting a physiotherapist.
