Chembarambakkam Lake Inflow Rises; Surplus Water Release Increased to 1,200 Cusecs

Due to continuous Northeast monsoon rains, the water inflow into Chembarambakkam Lake has increased significantly. As a precautionary measure, officials have doubled the surplus water discharge from 600 cusecs to 1,200 cusecs starting Monday.

Current Water Levels (as of Monday morning)

Water level: 21.39 ft

Storage capacity: 2,957 million cubic feet (Mcft)

Inflow: 100 cusecs

Since rainfall is expected to intensify in the coming days as per the weather forecast, lake authorities decided to increase the discharge to prevent overflowing and ensure flood safety in downstream areas along the Adyar River.

Earlier on November 14, surplus water was first released at 600 cusecs. With water levels continuing to rise, the discharge has now been increased to 1,200 cusecs.

Authorities urged residents living near low-lying areas and riverbanks to stay alert and follow safety instructions from district administration.
