Fire and ambulance services get ready for Deepavali

Posted on: 31/Oct/2013 10:42:44 AM
During the Deepavali festival season, there is every possibility of fire accidents. In order to face any eventualities the department has planned to station fire tenders in 54 strategic locations in the city. These locations have been identified based on fire accidents that were reported earlier and areas that are at a risk of facing such accidents. Each vehicle would have 15 fire personnel on duty for 24 hours, starting from two days before the actual festival. These fire tenders will be accompanied by 50 water tankers with a capacity of 4,000 litres from Metro Water throughout.

The department is also planning to deploy jeeps and bikes that will have the capacity to contain fire in areas where large tenders cannot enter easily. With over 1000 fire personnel on duty, more personnel from other districts are also likely to be deployed.

In addition, TNFRS will coordinate with the police department and share information. Two men will posted in each other’s control rooms and two more will be on duty at hospitals to gather details on injured and casualties.

This year, on behalf of the fire department, a video with actor Suriya is being telecast on TV to raise awareness among children about taking precautions while lighting crackers.
