Chennai Metro Clarifies: Bicycles Not Allowed Inside Metro Trains
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has clarified that passengers will not be allowed to carry bicycles inside metro trains.
According to metro officials, when the metro service was first launched, passengers were permitted to take bicycles only in the first-class coach. However, that particular coach has now been designated as a women’s coach.
Currently, metro trains are operated with four coaches, and during office hours, there is heavy crowding, leaving no sufficient space to accommodate bicycles. Officials explained that allowing bicycles inside could cause inconvenience to other commuters.
The CMRL further stated that there are no restrictions for persons with disabilities carrying their three-wheeler tricycles, and all facilities continue to be provided to ensure their safe and comfortable travel on the metro network.
