Kalaignar International Convention Centre to be Ready by February 2026
The under-construction Kalaignar International Convention Centre at Muttukadu on the ECR is set for completion by February 2026, Public Works Minister E.V. Velu said after reviewing progress on Monday.
Spread across 37.99 acres, the ₹525-crore project, launched in May 2025, aims to boost Chennai’s position as a global venue for major conferences and events. Construction of the second floor is currently underway.
Key Features of the Convention Centre
Exhibition Hall: 91,924 sq.ft | Capacity: 10,000 persons
Convention Hall: Seating for 5,000
Auditorium: 1,500 seats
Parking: 1,638 four-wheelers & 1,700 two-wheelers
Total Plinth Area: 2.08 lakh sq.ft
Once completed, the centre will give Tamil Nadu a distinct global identity in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sector, Minister Velu said. Senior officials, including Mangat Ram Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, PWD, joined the inspection.
