Riding on the bicycle to school everyday can bring amazing happiness for the students!!

Now, TN government has brought huge happiness on the faces of many Chennai and Tiruvallur district class11 school students studying in both government as well as government aided schools. Since the 2nd week of October, the school education department has been distributing bicycles to the students of class 11 across Tamil Nadu.

The officials have confirmed that the distribution of bicycles is under way in the districts of Chennai and Tiruvallur now.  Information gathered is that this superb scheme is implemented by the Dept of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities that is, BC/MBC/DC

As many as 21 districts in TN would receive bicycles from Avon Cycles Limited and the remaining 17 districts would receive bicycles from Hero Cycles Limited. It is learnt that the bicycles have been distributed for the academic year 2025-26 and the supply has already started in the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram plus others like Villupuram, Salem, Madurai and Tiruvannamalai etc.

It was brought to light by a coordinator that based on the instructions from the departments in the second week of October distribution of bicycles has been started in all the districts in TN. He hinted that the work would come to an end this week.

It must be recalled that in the month of July the first phase of bicycle distribution began and about 5.37 lakhs govt and govt aided schools of class11 across TN received bicycles. Initially, for the procurement of bicycles the TN govt allotted Rs 193 cr and later on Rs 80 cr to expand the scheme to Adi Dravidar and tribal Welfare schools. It is worth noting that this scheme of bicycle distribution has been carried out with the aim of reducing dropouts from the schools in higher secondary classes.

As per the students who have received bicycles it was clear that they need not depend on the public transport to go to their schools and they were happy.
