FIRST TIME EVER!! - Free cervical cancer vaccination for girls and young women under the age of 14 across Tamil Nadu!!
Women mostly get affected with breast cancer, cervical cancer and oral cancer and find it very difficult.
In this scenario, the health minister Mr. M. Subramanian spoke about how in the near future free cervical cancer vaccination would be available for girls and young women below the age of 14 in Tamil Nadu.
Yesterday, an awareness rally on breast cancer took place in Chennai and this caught the attention of many. It was explained by the health minister of TN that those women who walk, run and exercise daily have lower risk of developing cancer in them. He threw light on three major types of cancer in women like breast cancer, cervical and oral cancer and the importance of a healthy lifestyle etc.
In the last budget statement for administering HPV or cervical cancer vaccine to prevent cancer in the girls between age 1 and 14, Rs 38 cr was allocated. The chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin has instructed to provide vaccines free of cost to the beneficiaries. Currently, tender work is going on and once tender work gets over cervical cancer vaccines would be provided to the adolescent girls free of cost and it would be the first time ever in India. It is worth noting that this vaccination for cervical cancer could cost Rs 15000 in private hospitals.
The TN government has decided to provide free vaccination for the young girls as many of them would not be able to afford such an amount. In the districts like Erode, Kanniyakumari, Ranipet and Tirupathur etc, vaccines are being administered on trial basis as incidences of cervical cancer are high in these districts. Soon, free cervical cancer vaccination for teen age girls would be expanded across the entire Tamil Nadu.
