The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and is now centered over the southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 12 hours.
As of the latest update, the deep depression is located approximately 720 km east-southeast of Chennai, 790 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and 780 km south-southeast of Kakinada. The weather system has been moving west-northwestwards at a speed of about 8 kmph during the past six hours.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring its movement and intensity, as it may influence coastal weather conditions in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the coming days.
