Guidelines to Prevent Dengue and Malaria During the Monsoon Season

Posted on: 08/Oct/2025 10:39:22 AM

As the monsoon season approaches, the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria is expected to rise due to increased mosquito breeding. In light of this, Thanjavur District Collector Priyanka Pankajam has issued important instructions to the public on preventive measures to control the spread of these diseases.

According to the announcement, dengue fever is transmitted through the bite of the *Aedes* mosquito, which breeds in clean, stagnant water. To prevent the spread of dengue and malaria, residents are urged to follow the guidelines below:

- Ensure all household water containers are properly covered.

- Keep overhead and ground-level water tanks closed and clean them once a week using bleaching powder.

- Prevent water stagnation behind refrigerators and other household appliances.

- Remove unwanted items such as plastic containers, coconut shells, unused tires, and broken pots that can collect rainwater.

- Install mosquito screens and nets on windows and doors to stop mosquitoes from entering homes.

- Clear weeds and bushes around the house and keep the surroundings clean to prevent water stagnation.

- Extend full cooperation to mosquito control workers during their field operations.

- Anyone who develops a fever should immediately visit a nearby government hospital or primary health center for medical consultation and treatment.

The Collector emphasized that public cooperation is crucial to prevent the outbreak of dengue and malaria during the monsoon. She urged everyone to take necessary precautions to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all.
