Siddha medicine comes to rescue of Chennai Corporation from Dengue

Chennai Corporation has instructed doctors in urban primary health centres to start administering the nilavembu kashayam to all viral fever and suspected dengue patients. Sachets of the kashayam and papaya leaves have been made available in all health centres.
The nilavembu kashayam is a combination of nine substances—nilavembu (Andrographis paniculata), vetti ver (vetiveria zizanioides), vilamicham ver (Cymbopogen jwarankusa), sandalwood powder (santalum album), peypudal (trichosanthes cucumerina), korai kizhangu (cyperus rotundus), sukku (zinziber officinale), milagu (piper nigrum) and parpadagam (mollugo cerviana). It is known to cure any kind of persistent fever if taken for a week to 10 days. Patients are asked to mix the powder in the sachet with boiled water and consume it in dosages of 30 ml to 60 ml depending on the person and severity of the fever.
