Heavy Rain Likely in Chennai and Neighboring Districts on October 4

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rainfall in Chennai and nearby districts on Saturday, October 4. Ahead of this, the city may experience moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning on Friday.

According to the RMC, a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near West Bengal and Odisha coasts, is moving north-northwestwards and is expected to cross between Gopalpur and Paradip on the night of October 2.

The weather bulletin also warns of heavy rain at isolated places in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Salem, Ramanathapuram, and Puducherry in the coming days. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until October 6.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Madurai recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39°C, while Karur Paramathi logged the lowest minimum temperature of 22°C. The maximum temperature is expected to remain 2-3°C above normal in some parts of Tamil Nadu till October 6.
