The funds have been released from the centre and due to this the admission process under RTE or Right to Education would commence in the current academic year from 6th October 2025 onwards. This was announced by the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday, 2nd of October.
It must be noted that the decision follows the release of state`s due share of RTE reimbursements by the Union govt, in compliance with the directive from HC of Madras and subsequent proceedings from SC. This was as per Mr. Chandramohan who is the secretary of the school education dept.
An amount of Rs 538.39 cr would be released by the Integrated Finance Division of NITI Aayog. This comprises full central share amount of Rs 362.80 cr for 2024-25 and Rs 175.59 cr for 2025-26.
It was directed by the HC to delink RTE reimbursements from the Samagra Shiksha Scheme. Point is that the release of funds was not conditional upon the adoption of NEP 2020. This was according to an official about the delay of RTE admissions in Tamil Nadu.
It was brought out by Mr. Chandramohan that the RTE admission process would begin on 6th October and would end on 17th October. As of 30th September, the schools would upload a total number of seats in the entry level class.
He spoke about how on 8th of October 25% of RTE seats would be identified and would be made visible through school login. On 14th October the final list would be published regarding eligible children.
It is learnt that if the applications exceed 25percent random selection would be conducted on 16th October. On the last day of the process on 17th October, the selected names would be displayed. It is now said that the tagging of selected kids would be uploaded on the EMIS portal.
