Goods Train Jumps Track near Chennai Fort

A goods train carrying fertiliser from Kakinada to Trichy derailed above the Reserve Bank subway around 11.30am on Friday. Five wagons slipped off the rails. A major accident was averted as the wagons stopped short of falling into the subway as vehicles passed through.
But hundreds of suburban train commuters were stranded with the derailment stalling services between Tambaram and Chennai Beach. Engineers worked till late in the evening to get the train back on the tracks and restore normal services.
There were huge crowds at railway stations like Park, Nungambakkam and Kodambakkam in the evening.
