Chennai International Book Fair 2026 would be sensational!!

Bringing publishers and literary agents belonging to as many as 100 countries is not easy. This might happen in the fourth edition of Chennai International Book Fair in 2026. Incredible isn`t it!!

This book fair in Chennai would be held in the month of January. It is worthy to note that in 2025 the youngest international book fair in Asia attracted participants from as many as 64 countries.

It was brought out by Mr. B. Chandra Mohan, school education secretary that individual countries as well as publishers association such as APNET or African Publishers Network, Francophone countries, and Publishers without borders etc.

From 15th of October to 19th of October 2025, Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany would take place and it is now said that a team of officials from Tamil Nadu school education department would take part in that. The objective behind this would be to popularise the Chennai International Book Fair.

Mr. Chandra Mohan later spoke about how international co-publishers would be identified for translating classical and modern Tamil literary works published by the textbook corporation in English to foreign languages. More than 30 appointments have been fixed at the fair.

To popularise the comparative etymological dictionary of Tamil and Indo-European languages among international publishers and European government agencies, the Frankfurt fair sessions have been planned.

It is noteworthy that as a quarterly magazine that provides a forum to international debate, the UNESCO courier was one of the first international journals. This journal is now published online in as many as 6 languages namely Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Russian, Spanish, Catalan and Esperanto. Important piece of information is that the textbook corporation is having plans to revive UNESCO courier in Tamil language and meetings have been planned with the UNESCO officials.

It is really sensational that the TN government has announced a project to translate Thirukurral into 45 more languages and twin Tamil epics such as Silapathikaram and Manimegalai into 25 more languages in another 3 years. Translation agencies have been entrusted with these works. 

It must be recalled that at the Chennai International Book Fair in 2025 more than 1300 MoUs were signed to translate the books from Tamil to foreign languages and from foreign languages to Tamil.
