Siruseri in south Chennai is an important locality in Chennai. Soon, this locality would become a place interconnected with global network traffic, cloud service providers etc. Sounds fantastic right!!
On Friday, chief minister of TN Mr. M. K. Stalin grabbed many eyeballs when he inaugurated the USA based new Equinix data centre at Chennai. This data centre could handle artificial intelligence workloads.
This data centre has been constructed at a huge cost of Rs 600 cr or 69million USD on a 6 acre land parcel in Siruseri. It is now said that this data centre would be interconnected with global network traffic, internet and cloud service providers etc. Moreover, this facility in Chennai is also linked with Mumbai based Equinix campus.
Now, this data centre in Chennai has 800 cabinets of capacity and it would be expanded to 4250 cabinets in another 4 to 6 years. Mr. Manoj Paul, MD Equinix India expressed his thoughts about the data centre. He spoke about how the centre is equipped with liquid cooling technology essential for handling high density computer intensive workloads that drive AI. He added that the success in building the most interconnected ecosystem for cloud, carrier, content and enterprises in Mumbai would now be extended to customers across TN.
It must be taken into account that California based Equinix hosts more than 300 companies in India. This included 5 internet exchanges and network service providers etc. The campus at Mumbai has3 high performance data centres that support a cloud ecosystem.
