With development works going on, soon Chengalpet railway station would become world class!!

Under the Amruth Station project, development work has been going on now at the Chengalpet railway station. An amount of Rs 22.14 cr is being spent on this.

For several purposes like education, work, business and medical care etc, lakhs of people come to Chennai city from several parts of Chengalpet. In the same way, many go to Chengalpet from Chennai by trains for their jobs especially as many factories or industries are located in the Chengalpet district. This has led to heavy crowding at the Chengalpet railway station.

In this scenario, the SR or Southern Railways have taken measures to provide all basic amenities at the railway station in Chengalpet.

According to a statement issued by SR, the Chengalpet railway station handles more than 60000 passengers every day. The station is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 22.14 cr under the Amruth station project. The main aim of this project is to modernise the Chengalpet railway station and improve the facilities for the passengers for seamless travel.     

What works are going on and what works are completed now?

Now, the construction work for the new admin building, concourse corridor and ticket counters at Chengalpet railway station is in the final stages. It is learnt that more than 85% of the development works have been completed here. The surface works have been completed in no 5 and no 6. On platforms no 7 and no 8, work is going on now. The work of constructing roofs on the platforms has been fully completed. On the platforms no 2, no 7 and no 8, 2 lifts have been installed. Soon, the work on installation of additional lifts at platforms no 3, no4 no 5 and no 6 would start. It must be noted that the final stages of work regarding pedestrian pathways, passenger information boards etc have been going on now at brisk speeds.

It is now mentioned that the Chengalpet railway station would soon become a world class passenger facility with modern design, new flooring, spacious concourse areas, a/c waiting rooms, lounges, expanded parking facilities, pedestrian walkways, modern public information and display system etc.
